The APTD and CPTD practice tests are useful benchmarks as you get ready for your official certification exam and give you an advanced opportunity to acclimate to the exam-day experience. The APTD and CPTD practice tests are accessible for 365 days based on the date of purchase and can be taken three times.

Administered using the same system that you will use to apply for, schedule, and take your certification exam, the practice tests include the same number and type of questions you will see on the exam. The APTD and CPTD practice tests are fully timed, comprehensive experiences that assess your proficiency in all capabilities covered on the APTD and CPTD Certification Exams.

As you map out your study plan and preparation timeline, we recommend spacing out your three test attempts to optimize their impact. Take a practice test at the beginning of study, at the midway point, and again just before your official certification exam. Following the timed portion of your practice test, you can review your results as well as answer rationales to help you identify and address knowledge gaps.

Complete your practice test registration process by accessing the ATD Certification Portal. Once finished, you’ll be able to checkout and pay for your practice test. After payment is submitted, you’ll be routed back into the Certification Portal where you can launch your first practice test attempt immediately. You get three attempts for the practice test. Make sure to complete your first practice test attempt within three months of purchasing the practice test. Test attempt authorizations do expire.

If I do well on the practice test, will I pass the certification exam?
The APTD or CPTD practice test is one of several tools you can use during your certification preparation journey. They offer you a chance to engage with questions similar to those you will see on the certification exam. It is important to recognize, however, that practice test results are not psychometrically equivalent to success or failure on the APTD or CPTD Certification Exams.
Why is the practice test limited to three attempts?
As you map out your study plan and timeline, we recommend spacing out the three practice test attempts to optimize their impact and suggest that you take a practice test at the beginning of study, the midway point, and again just before your official certification exam. Because the questions are static, taking the practice test too frequently diminishes its value if you start remembering the questions and answers.
How long do I have access to the practice test?
You will have access to the practice tests for 365 days based on the date of purchase and that includes three test attempts. Individual test attempt authorizations are valid for three months from initiation or until your access to the practice test ends, whichever occurs first. Access is for a single user only. Any test attempts not used by the end of the 365 day access period are forfeit.
Once I purchase the practice test, how do I get access?
Practice test attempts are administered through the ATD Certification Portal. An initial test attempt is authorized immediately following purchase and is accessible by logging in to the ATD Certification Portal. An authorization email will also be sent from [email protected] within 15 minutes of checkout. Make sure to take your first test attempt within three months of purchase, before it expires.
How much time does a practice test take to complete?
You should plan to set aside 2+ hours (APTD) and 3+ hours (CPTD) to complete all the questions and spend extra time reviewing your results and the answer rationales. Attempts are timed, and you cannot pause or exit and come back to a test session once it’s been launched.
Can I pause my test to finish it later?
No, you cannot pause or exit and come back to a test session once it’s been launched. If you end your session for any reason, even if you haven’t finished your test or reviewed your results, the attempt still counts towards the three attempts allotted to you.
How do I initiate a test attempt?
Your first practice test attempt is initiated automatically when you purchase the APTD or CPTD practice test. You’ll receive an authorization email from [email protected] within 15 minutes, and a test attempt will be added to your account. When you are ready to take your second and third practice tests, you’ll complete a new test registration and free checkout through the ATD Certification Portal. A new attempt cannot be requested until the previous attempt has been used.
Do test authorizations expire?
Yes, test authorizations are valid for three months from initiation or until the end of your 365-day access period, whichever occurs first. If you don’t use an attempt before its authorization expires, you lose that attempt.
What do my practice test results mean?
Practice test results include high-level feedback by domain to help you identify where you may need further study. An overall score and a breakdown per capability are not provided.
I’m enrolled in the APTD or CPTD Preparation course. Is a practice test included in my registration?
Yes, the practice test is an included benefit of the APTD and CPTD Certification Preparation courses. If you are currently enrolled in one of the courses and want to access the practice test, you will need to follow the instructions in the Exam Prep Resources section of the course to gain access to the practice test. You have access to three practice test attempts as part of your course enrollment.

Is the practice test available in languages other than English?
The APTD practice test is available in Arabic and English and will be available in Chinese in early 2023. To take the practice test in Arabic simply complete the purchase as normal and choose your language preference when you initiate your first test attempt. The CPTD practice test is available only in English.
